Brian Khoury
Mr. Khoury is the founder and Managing Director of Waypoint Ventures. Founded in 2000, Waypoint Ventures is a venture capital fund that focuses on investing in early-and middle-stage companies. Waypoint Ventures provides guidance and support to entrepreneurs and technology startups, helping to develop their ideas into solid revenue generating companies. The fund also co-invests in later stage opportunities assisting companies with business introductions and strategy. Among active investments include: Automotive Trade Center, Applimation, RF Magic, Mobius Microsystems and Symwave.
Prior to founding Waypoint Ventures, Mr. Khoury worked at Pacific Scene Homes, a Real Estate Development and Construction business in San Diego and Riverside County. At PSH he focused on acquisitions, business operations, and project finance. He has also served as a business development consultant for Sprint Corp., in business development at an Internet transaction company, and as a financial analyst Creditanstalt in Hong Kong.
As an active Angel investor, Mr. Khoury participated in the financings of H20 Audio, First Virtual (IPO: 1997; acquired by Doubleclick: DCLK), Entropic Communications, VST International, XEMI, and Symwave where he served as CFO, raised the first round of institutional investment and now is an active Board Observer. Mr. Khoury continues to serve on the board of Pacific Scene and has recently joined the board of VanthedgePoint Group, Inc. Additionally he has invested in several other consumer businesses and restaurants including Wireless Giant, Wasabi, Pandora, LoFat KnowFat Grill, and Confidential Restaurant and Loft.
A frequent seminar speaker, Mr. Khoury has been a featured guest on the Digital Hour on WJR radio station in Detroit, and as a panelist for the 2001 and 2002 University of Michigan Business School reunions on "Venture Capital: is the party over?" and "Succeeding as an Entrepreneur." Mr. Khoury has taught classes at the University of Michigan Business School and at San Diego State University for both business entrepreneurship and private equity finance; and served as a judge for the 2001-2005 San Diego Regional Technology Alliance/CONNECT Business Plan Competition, 2005 San Diego Venture Group PitchFest Competition, 2002-2005 SDSU Venture Challenge, the 2001-2003 UMBS Pryor Hale business plan competition.
Mr. Khoury graduated with a BA in History from Boston College and an MBA from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business, where he co-wrote several award winning business plans including the Indiana Spirit of Innovation, the UMBS FutureTech, and 2000 MBA Moot Corp Business Plan of the Year. He also was a participant in the VCIC Venture Capital Competition.
Mr. Khoury serves on the following Board of Directors: Young Venture Capitalists, an association of more than 150 members dedicated to fostering professional relationships between venture capitalists under 40; St. Vincent de Paul, a local nonprofit organization led by Father Joe Carroll; Legacy Building Services, a San Diego General Contracting firm; and Pacific Scene a Southern California building and land development company. He also serves on the Alumni Council of his High School, Francis W. Parker. Mr. Khoury completed the first phase of a Feng Shui Masters program, sponsored efforts for the USA Olympic Shooting Team, supports the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Land Mine Survivors Networks, and is active in the wine community. |
